Book V.F. Miller, one of the largest researchers of Russian uniform poetry, the chief representative of the Moscow Ethnographic School, an outstanding Russian scientist, folklorist, ethnographer, linguistic, oriental and archaeologist is devoted to the development of the ideas of the comparative method in relation to the Russian epic tradition. Miller shaped the building of the main epic heroes and plots, showed how many stray plots, connecting with the spiritual world of a particular people, creates a unique peculiarity, which distinguishes the folk traditions of each people. The path that Miller walked, moving gradually from linguistics through ethnography to the study of the monuments of folk poetry, turned out to be very fruitful. His desire to substantiate conclusions on the exact critical-philological study of the texts of the epic, determine the degree of participation of singers and specialists and trace the ethnographic-geographical distribution of our national epic led to positive historical and literary results in the study of the material, where experts rotated in the field of bold assumptions. and interesting, but giving little positive conclusions of parallels.
The book is addressed to specialists in the field of folklore, linguistics, cultural studies and history, as well as all interested in the national epic tradition
