The book is devoted to the analysis of the images of folk mythological prose-the spirit of the masters who formed in ancient mythology the highest deities, and in the late folklore of transformed in lower spiritual entities, helping in household and economic affairs: a banner, brownie, goblin, water and conjugated creatures . The appearance, chronotope, the functions of these characters are considered. Sincretism and the ambiguity of images are revealed, the archetype of which was formed in the myth of the totem ancestor. Field materials, including collected by the author, are involved in the analysis. For the first time, a comparative analysis of a very large amount of scientific data in the field of ethnography, folklorism, history, linguistics, art history, literary criticism, traditional medicine, and botany is carried out in the book.
