The monograph is devoted to the mythological motives of the work of N.V. Gogol, distinguishing him from simple artistic fiction and making the creations of the writer not an allegorical image of reality, but an autonomous reality of myth -making. The methodological base of the study is the classic of the philosophy of mythology - the fundamental works of F.V.Y. Schelling, E. Cassirer, A.F. Loseva et al. The “Tautegoric” (according to Schelling) interpretation of Gogol myth -making is defended in the work, opposing all attempts to find a realist and satirist in it, the problems of appropriation, sculpture, fate, laughter, and apophatism in Gogol’s works are in detail. Particular attention is paid to the key to myth -making motive for childhood: the world of Gogol is understood as the world seen by children"s eyes. In the work, an attempt was also made to connect Gogol’s creations with ancient philosophy (on the example of Heraclitus and Plato), not yet striking with the myth and drawing his inspiration in it: thereby it can be shown that the features of Gogol are not the strangeness and the quirks of his genius, but the constitutional features of the powerful powerful. a layer of spiritual culture of entire nations - mythology. The book is addressed to philosophers, literary scholars, culturalists and everyone who loves and appreciates the work of N.V. Gogol
