The book included thirty English tales from the legendary collection of folklorist Joseph Jacobs, published in the UK at the end of the 19th century.
It was after this book that Joseph Jacobs became revered in England, like the Grimm brothers in Germany, and British children began to be read not only by Charles Perrail"s fairy tales, but also by "works created by the fantasy of the English people."
In our book, household fairy tales with purely English humor, and mysterious magical stories, and romantic fantasy, and knightly legends are presented. The simple -minded eccentrics and unlucky giants, kind -hearted girls and ubiquitous elves, noble knights and insatiable monsters live in English fairy tales.
Tales are illustrated by the works of outstanding book graphics of Britain of the XIX -XX centuries - John Batten, Warwick Gobla, John Lich, Herbert Cole, Walter Crane, Arthur Rackhem - as well as the works of artists of America and Europe.
All fairy tales are printed in classic translations that came out in Russia in the late XIX - early XX centuries
