This volume includes works of ritual folklore of the peoples of Dagestan: Avartsev, Agouls, Dargins, Kumykov, Laks, Lezgin, Nogais, Rutulov, Tabasaranians, Tsakhurov, as well as Dagestan Azerbaijanis. The book includes ritual songs both well -known and not published earlier, the best examples characteristic of the peoples of Dagestan, and their options, were selected. The texts are grouped according to the principle of their division into genre varieties: 1) calendar-river (songs of winter-spring and summer-autumn cycles) and 2) family-domestic (wedding songs, cries and lamentations) The community and national specificity of Dagestan ritual poetry is a convincing reflection of the “unity in the variety” of the spiritual culture of the peoples of the multinational Dagestan. In this regard, this publication is unique. In the introductory article, historical and ethnographic foundations, folklore traditions of ritual songs, the principles of grouping of texts, general and national-specific in them are characterized. The scientific value of this is also given by comments and notes, pointers and explanatory dictionary.
