This publication prepared in collaboration with the Russian State Library offers a new perspective in the study of the history of the Rumyantsev Museum - gaining a more complete idea of ​​this phenomenon. The publication includes general historical articles and essays, which describe the fate of collectors and their families. In essays, the authors were attributed to equal attention to representatives of famous surnames and those collectors who did not reach fame. Some essays are devoted to "donors of unwitting": after 1918, the Rumyantsev Museum became the place of storage of works of art from nationalized collections, some of them entered the meeting of the GMIA. In the process of work on the publication, information about many donors of the museum was identified and refined: some again found the names, dates of life, their place in the historical context of Russia"s artistic life.
