The collective monograph is based on the thematic unity of historical and cultural narratives reflecting various aspects of traditional and modern models of response by Eastern societies to the crisis associated with the coronavirus, as well as to similar challenges in history. The key goal of the authors is to explore the connection between traditional cultures and development models of Eastern societies with important aspects of the modern crisis, such as the necessity of sharp limitations on in-person social contacts, increased attention to hygiene and health, as well as government measures to contain the virus and combat its spread. The book is aimed at cultural studies scholars, historians, orientalists, and sociologists.
