The requirements for the safety of the ICS of the international standard IEC 61508 'Functional safety of electrical, electronic, programmable electronic safety-related systems' are detailed, and their interpretation for practical implementation is provided. Specific steps necessary to obtain compliance with IEC 61508 certification are sequentially disclosed. Special attention is paid to certification preparation, including defining the certification object, project infrastructure, plan, and cost estimate for the work. The standard requirements related to safety management are discussed, methods for its quantitative assessment are proposed, and measures for its assurance are provided.
