The collective work "English Symbolism: Its Distinctiveness and European Scope" is currently the only Russian-language study of English symbolism in the multifaceted nature of its manifestations. The unique panorama of the development of symbolism in England created by the authors of the monograph includes literature, art criticism, visual arts, architecture, photography, music, theater, and cinema. The book reveals the "thread connecting the times": from the origins of English symbolism - the works of W. Blake, J. Fuseli, J.M.W. Turner, through the artistic and aesthetic quests of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the aestheticism and symbolism of the works of W. Pater, O. Wilde, A. Symons, to the impulses of symbolist worldview in the works of English masters of the second half of the 20th century - F. Bacon, H. Moore, A. Hitchcock. Simultaneously, it identifies the interconnections between the art of England at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and such countries as Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Russia.
