The epoch, which gave the world of William Shakespeare and John Donna, is the most famous period of English history. The revival of England was placed in a relatively peaceful gap between two periods of civil turmoise - the war of the scarlet and white rose of the 15th century and the bourgeois revolution of the 17th century. The flowering of literature and theater prepared by the long development of the national-distinctive features of the English poetry and the assimilation of the ideas of the European Renaissance, in the late years of the kingdom of Queen Elizabeth I. In agreement with this, the book is divided into three parts corresponding to the beginning, ripening and "Golden Autumn" of English Renaissance .
The most different styles and genres are presented - from the poems of Shakespeare "Venus and Adonis" and Donna "Path of Soul" to anonymous songs and ballads. In total, the book includes works of more than forty authors. Part of the works in Russian is published for the first time
