The book has an analysis of the current state of designs of worm gearboxes with a detailed consideration of the conditions for increasing the bearing capacity of transmission, efficiency, and reliability of work through the use of a set of measures. The main attention is paid to the correct design and bench tests according to the criteria for the working capacity of worm transmission, as well as structural modernization of the elements of the mechanism, compatibility of the materials used, new developments and the use of lubricants with effective antifriction additives and functional add -ons. The results of the theoretical and experimental studies of the sliding process between the contacting surfaces of the worm pair, the energy efficiency of the lubricants, the anti-zadiric properties of surface-active substances are given and the dimensionless criterion of the bulk resistance was obtained, which can be judged by the performance of the tribosystem at the design stage.
