The influence of geomagnetic disturbances on the operation of electric networks and their elements is considered. The analysis of the sources of occurrence and the spread of quasi -preserved geo -induced currents is given, their impact on power transformers has been comprehensively investigated. Computer modeling of unilateral saturation of power transformers was made. A geoelectric hypothesis of the emergence and development of the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station is proposed.
