The book discusses the period of searching for a universal heat engine. The period from the end of the Renaissance is covered - the heyday of sciences, and to the New Year, when science turns into the current power of technological progress. The issues of searching for new mechanisms for creating a driving force, the appearance and development of steam machines as the first universal heat engine, as well as the appearance of the first internal combustion prototypes are considered. The principles of constructions set forth by the carno, and the birth of the fundamental science of thermal processes - thermodynamics are given. The completion of the search period of the universal heat engine can be considered the birth of a new type of thermal machine - the Lenoir internal combustion engine. Historical information about inventors and scientists involved in the creation of the ICE is given.
