The book is the first in a series dedicated to the history of creating an internal combustion engine. The first stage of the attempt to create a universal engine is presented, which can set in motion various mechanisms using simple mechanisms. The characteristic features of this period were attempts to adapt simple mechanisms to create an engine, which produced a driving force to drive various devices and eliminated the use of human strength, animals, as well as the forces of wind and water to perform work. The result of such attempts was the search for an eternal engine of the first kind and in the future search for an eternal engine of the second kind.
