The methodology for assessing the carrying capacity and durability of road and city bridges based on a systematic approach and provisions of reliability theory is presented. The characteristics of the functional consumer properties of bridge structures are given. Methods of evaluating the design and actual values of carrying capacity are described in detail. The composition of field studies has been set out, the analysis of defects and damage, as well as their effect on carrying capacity and durability. Possible strategies for the operation and repair of bridges are considered in order to optimize their content during the life cycle.
