Terahertz electronics

The book discusses the properties of the electromagnetic radiation of the terartz range and the features of its interaction with the substance. The reasons for the appearance of the so -called “teragerz failure” are shown, in which the output power of both quantum and classic sources of radiation is minimal compared to neighboring frequency ranges. The classification of sources of radiation of the terartz range is given. Quantum sources of teragerz radiation, including quantum cascading lasers, molecular lasers and generators on the Josephson effect, are examined in detail. It is shown that the use of new wide -zone semiconductor materials can significantly increase the operating frequency and output power of semiconductor generators and amplifiers, raising their maximum operating frequency up to several teragerz.
