The results of a study of the methanony of coal layers, their gas retention in mining and degassing wells are given, the ecology of coal mines and regions of Russia was evaluated. The problems of methane in the underground method of coal production, methanotality of coal mines are highlighted, the role of the sources of the release of mine methane, and gas emission controls are evaluated. New technological solutions for the degassing of mines, the prevention of explosive clusters of methane are set out. The method of predicting the volume and intensity of the release of mine methane into the mountain workings of gas mines is justified.
