Issues related to the most effective and common methods of surface hardening of metals: chemical-thermal treatment, surface hardening, surface plastic deformation are set out. The fundamental aspects of the technological processes under consideration are analyzed: the main purpose and metal -making foundations of hardening, the selection of technological equipment and technological regimes, quality control methods, a characteristic chemical composition of metal subject to hardening. Examples of production using the consolidating technologies under consideration are presented. Examples of metal -scientific tests aimed at improving the technology of surface hardening are given.
