In the second half of the 1950s, the first three domestic aircraft with gas turbine engines-Tu-104, An-10 and IL-18 entered the Aeroflot line. Of these, only IL-18 still continues to be operated, though already in the armed forces. Il-18 flew on all, including international, air routes of Aeroflot, in many airlines of the fraternal USSR states. In the Soviet Union, over forty years of operation, he transported millions of people, including in the harsh conditions of the Far North. It was the IL-18 after the flight into space delivered Yuri Gagarin to Moscow. This winged car became not only one of the most popular passenger liners in the history of aviation-at its base, IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft, IL-22 air reconnaissance aircraft, IL-24 aircraft laboratory and a hunting aircraft behind submarines for a probable enemy Il-38, which in the early 20s of the XXI century did not lose its significance for the defense of our borders, continuing to remain in service and constantly passing modernization programs.
