A modern approach to assessing fatigue and prolonged strength of welded butt joints and the main metal of the pipelines has been set out. Much attention is paid to the analysis of the laws of plastic deformation and destruction of the metal from which the components of the pipeline are made. It contains an overview of the results of steel strength studies with various types of loading. The regulatory methods for assessing fatigue and creep are briefly set out, as well as proposals for their improvement.
