Analysis and processing of navigation measurements. Tutorial

The main tasks of the navigation are solved by navigation methods, the essence of which consists in a continuous assessment of the position of the vessel on the terrain and in determining the vector of its speed, and the basis of the navigation process is the measurement of navigation elements, the processing and analysis of their results. In this process, the human factor is extremely important: a high level of professional competence of the skills, the ability to evaluate the accuracy of the place and the degree of navigation security of the vessel based on the mathematical analysis of navigation information and its creative use.
The theoretical basis for assessing the accuracy of solving navigation problems is probabilistic-statistical methods, based on conclusions of probability theory, mathematical statistics and correlation theory.
The training manual sets out mathematical methods for calculating the accuracy of navigation measurements and evaluating their reliability, and examples of calculations are given.
