Betrayal! A disgusting, treacherous act that fatally strikes not only the one who was betrayed, but also the betrayer themselves, depriving them of joy, love, and ultimately life. In Moscow, in a large house on Lenin Avenue, where either high-ranking officials or prominent scientists lived, there were two boys who had known each other since early childhood. It so happened that these boys studied together first in school, then in college, and later began working in the same laboratory of a scientific institute under the guidance of a scientist who, along with other colleagues, participated in the creation of the laser after the Great Patriotic War. At that time, after the victory over the fascist hydra, the tremendous efforts of the former front-line soldiers enabled them to gain worldwide recognition, becoming leaders in the field of quantum electronics, surpassing even a country like the USA. The young men learned from the older generation, engaged in new developments. But different times came. The life paths of these young men diverged. One of them, driven by pride and greed, kills his mentor and tries to sell his invention to the West in order to become rich. He faces a just retribution for this crime. The second one continues the work of his mentor in a large company producing laser installations. And the scientist's daughter, who became a well-known journalist, analyzes the roots and causes of betrayal, studies the internal motives that push people onto this terrible path.
