This study is the first in Russian and foreign historiography of the intellectual history of the decision of the Highland problem of Great Britain at the end of the XVII - the first half of the XVIII centuries. The author"s focus is the role of colonial knowledge in the pacification and the "civilization" of mountain Scotland. Geographers, ethnographers, Polyteconomy in Highland were also officials, in practice, confirming the close relationship between the authorities and knowledge within the framework of the colonial and the outskirts of European powers in the spirit of the mind and enlightenment. They combined the expansion of the imperial order, the new scientific knowledge and secular ideas about humanity. The disclosure of these plots helps more deeply understand how the British nation and the British Empire were formed, as well as the importance of the intellectual colonization of Hyland for imperial construction over the oceans and wider - the role of humanitarian knowledge of the mind, the enlightenment and the first global empires.
