This guide - the Emergency Medicine Synopsis (EMS) has a long history, it is the result of decades of previous work on both resource management concepts in crisis situations and risks (CRM), and cognitive materials for practicing physicians. The book "Managing Crisis Situations in Anesthesiology," written by doctors David Gaba, Steven Howard, and Kevin Fish in 1994, laid the initial foundation for this project. Noticing that doctors often miss key actions in stressful situations, doctors Harrison and Goldhaber-Fiebert, along with doctors Jeff Laighthall, Ruth Fanning, Howard, and Gaba, developed several iterations of pocket cards for critical conditions in the perioperative period. In 2004, Dr. Larry Chu decided to present cognitive aids for crisis management in a more visual format for a new book.
