The chamber-vocal heritage of Richard Strauss (1864–1949) is the least studied area of his work. The circle of the composer's poetic interests is incredibly wide and mostly represented by texts of German authors. The first song opus - Eight poems from "Last Leaves" by Hermann von Gilm, Op. 10 (1882) - became a kind of concentrate of themes, images, and genres presented in his subsequent vocal works. "Oriental Melodies," Op. 77 (1928), are written on Chinese and Persian texts translated by Hans Bethge. Originally planned for tenor performance, Strauss dedicated the cycle to the German singer Elizabeth Schumann and her husband, conductor Karl Alwin. The publication is aimed at students of music schools and creative universities, professional performers, and lovers of vocal music.
