"Eight Mountains" is a poignant novel about friendship, fathers and children, self-discovery, and the mountains, which serve as one of the main characters in the book. The Alps in Konetti are nothing like the mountains on a postcard. They are alive, they have character, and each of the heroes builds their own relationship with them. Konetti tells about this harsh land and its people, about the mountaineers among whom he grew up and with whom he is inseparably connected.
The novel "Eight Mountains" has received several literary awards, including the Strega Prize (2017) and the Medici Prize for Best Foreign Book (2017).
If the point where you immerse yourself in the river is the present... then the past is the water that flowed past you: it has gone down, there is nothing more for you in it, and the future is the water that descends from above, bringing dangers and surprises. The past is below, the future is above...
