The renowned English orientalist and archaeologist Wallis Budge dedicated his entire life to the study of Ancient Egypt and wrote over one hundred and twenty research works about it. His book 'The Gods of the Egyptians' is devoted, perhaps, to the most interesting aspect of the cultural life of the inhabitants of the Nile valley - religion and mythology. Vividly and engagingly retelling the myths, the author shows the diverse world of gods and deities worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, reveals the peculiarities of their beliefs about the afterlife, describes the rites and mysteries meticulously observed by this exceptionally pious people. Special attention is given to hieroglyphic writing, accompanying the original texts with transliteration and translation.
The book is furnished with illustrations taken from papyri, ancient books, and the surfaces of sarcophagi.
