The book reconstructs the processes of the formation of gender ideologies of the medieval West at various levels: from religious treatises and sermons interpreting the images of biblical heroines, to practical instructions to wives and art works that reflect the perception of a woman with a medieval person. The author devotes his study to the answer to the question of ideologies that allow medieval culture to use female potential as productively as possible - to “create” women necessary in the sociocultural space of the Middle Ages: nuns, wives and fornicators. The book examines their private and social life, their roles and functions within the boundaries of medieval culture.
The book is addressed to historians, culturalists, social scholars, as well as all readers interested in the theme of a woman in the Middle Ages
