In the post -war period, two new states appear annually in the world annually, researchers have several hundred acting separatist conflicts of varying degrees of intensity. Separatism has become a global phenomenon. The growth of the number of movements that achieve varying degrees of autonomy has strengthened the attention of the scientific community to the phenomenon of separatism. It is no coincidence that some researchers dubbed the XXI century of the “century of separatism”. The first part of the analytical review considers the motivation of separatist movements, the reactions of the central governments and the international community to separatism, the problems of the formation and development of regional parties and the de facto states are highlighted. The second part reveals the features of modern separatist movements in different regions of the world
