The main work of the outstanding Russian-American sociologist P.A. Sorokina (1889-1968) was published in the United States in four volumes in 1937-1941. And in subsequent years, he gained the glory of classical work in the field of sociology and cultural studies.
The main pathos of essays is the denial of the worldly natural -historical laws acting, like the laws of nature, with the "iron necessity". Based on the analysis of the huge statistical material, Sorokin proved that throughout the human history there is a alternate change of three "super -systems": sensual, ideational and idealistic. The future is not predetermined, and what it will, Sorokin believes, depends on each of us.
The book was translated into almost all European languages and a number of Asian. In 1957, Sorokin prepared an abbreviated and adapted edition of "social and cultural dynamics", from which a real translation was made. The translation is equipped with vast comments and an announced names indicator.
