The book is dedicated to one of the representative genres of Russian music of the 1920s - piano sonata. In order to recreate the context that determines the main processes and the general orientation of the development of musical thinking, the general picture of the artistic searches of this period is modeling and the implementation of the most important trends in the genre under consideration is traced. Monographic essays are dedicated to the sonata creativity of D. D. Shostakovich, N. Ya. Tyskovsky, S. E. Feynberg, L. A. Polinkin, A. V. Mosolov, N. A. Roslavts and S. V. Protopopov, who most reliefly reflected The context of the era, its sociocultural, artistic and creative, aesthetic-style parameters. Significant attention is also paid to the works of composers of the so -called “second row”, complementing and clarifying the portrait of the genre.
