The 1780s in the history of Europe were marked by a powerful heyday of culture and dramatic social processes, the culmination of which was the French Revolution. The spirit of bold searches and innovations penetrated into philosophy: with his fundamental work, “Criticism of Pure Reason” (1781) Immanuel Kant made a real revolution in metaphysics and our picture of the world as a whole. This Copernican revolution was the beginning of a new - critical - period in the work of the thinker himself.
The publication includes two works of a critical period.
“Plaighers to any future metaphysics” (1783) is a kind of key to understanding “criticism of pure mind”. Conceived as a brief popular presentation of this great difficult work, in the process of work, the essay was supplemented by explanations designed to refute the erroneous interpretation of the most significant provisions of the Kantian teachings and prepare the reader for the perception of “criticism”.
“Fundamentals of metaphysics of morality” (1785) - an ethical treatise in which Kant develops the philosophical justification of the moral law - a categorical imperative
