After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the former socialist camp entered into a new historical era. The euphoria from the collapse of totalitarian regimes prompted researchers of the 1990s to describe the future trajectory of the development of these countries in terms of liberal democracy, but it soon became clear that political reality did not justify universal hopes for the accelerated democratization of the region. The transit situation gave rise to modes that cannot be clearly categorized using traditional liberal discourse. Balint Magyar and Balint Madlovich set themselves the task of finding a working analytical model and the actual language of describing post -communist modes. So this book appeared, offering updated theoretical tools for the analysis of actors, institutions and dynamics of modern political systems of the countries of Central Europe, the post -Soviet region and China.

How are the institutions of democratic public discussion neutralize in autocracies? Why can China be called dictatorship using the market? What is the difference between Western populists and populists from post -communist countries? Here is just a small list of questions that this book gives answers to. Balint Magyar - Hungarian sociologist, politician, former Minister of Education and Culture of Hungary. Balint Madlovich-Hungarian political scientist, economist and sociologist, Ma in Political Science Central European University
