Understanding the features of various cultures, eras, areas of activity of people and man himself as such is customary to express the concept of "mentality". The author offers his vision of mentality, which allows to connect in one concept life, knowledge and reflection on their occasion. In the reader of the reader, the monograph is given ontological, methodological and instrumental justification of the concept of "mentality". The existential foundations of mentality are shown on the example of the study of Russian culture. The methodological significance of the concept is revealed through its comparison with other concepts in demand by modern theory of cognition. The use of the mental research method allowed the author to expand the understanding of rationality and highlight a new aspect in the idea of the cumulativeness of science.
