The monograph is devoted to the theoretical and empirical study of the life path and life strategies of the new working class of modern Russia using the example of youth of the Ural Federal District. The work compares the heuristic capabilities of the Russian discourse of life strategies and theories of life path, conventional for Western social science. The conceptual insufficiency of Russian approaches to the study of life strategies of youth is argued and an author’s approach is proposed that integrates this concept into the discourse of life research research, relevant for world science. As part of the discussion on changing the position of the working class in the context of modern global capitalism, the author’s definition of the concept of "new working class" and the criteria for the allocation of this social group, taking into account the Russian specificity, was proposed. The feasibility of applying the principle of multidimensional typologization of life strategies of the group under consideration is proved on the basis of such features as class and professional identity, educational trajectories, features of labor and economic behavior, gender and family attitudes, lifestyle and cultural practices, subjective temporality, spatial mobility. The monograph is based on data from the author’s empirical study, including a massive survey and a deep biographical interview with youth of a new working class, expert survey, content and discourse analysis of online versions of traditional media and social networks
