The book that you hold in your hands is devoted to the history of social and cultural life in the twentieth century. This age is rich in grandiose historical events, reflected both in the minds of Russian people and on the works of Russian culture. Russia was included in the state of a completely new type, with unprecedented public relations within it. Nevertheless, Russia remained true to that cultural humanistic tradition that was laid down by previous generations. The author traces the history of Russian society and Russian culture throughout the whole century, distinguishing various historical periods, each of which is distinguished by a unique originality. The book stops at the highest achievements of Russian culture of the twentieth century, the memory of which should be preserved along with the memory of the achievements of previous centuries. We find such achievements in literature and in the visual and musical art. The Russian theater and Russian cinema played a special role in world culture. The heroism of the Russian people who won the Great War, and their desire for ideal, and sorrow about numerous victims, were reflected in these world recognition of the works.
