A significant part of its articles is the first descriptions of languages compiled on the basis of materials collected by authors in expeditions. Articles are written in accordance with a single typologically oriented scheme, which is used in all volumes of the publication "Languages of the world" and ensures the comparability of the characteristics of various languages. Information about languages is complemented by language cards. Tom is both fundamental scientific work, and the publication with a wide circle of readers, including linguists of various specializations, historians, ethnographers, teachers, students and graduate students, as well as all those interested in African languages
