Contrary to the current ideas, the publicity and free polemic in Russian history of the last two centuries are more common than public non -perch, repression or propaganda. Moreover, publicity and publicity have repeatedly become triggers of serious reforms from above. At the same time, optimistic expectations from expanding the sphere of open public discussion were most often not justified. Is it true in this case that the rate on publicity in Russia is doomed to defeat? The authors of the book strive to reconsider the prevailing stereotypes based on the theory of the public sphere (Yu. Habermas, H. Rede, N. Fraser, O. Kharkhordin, A. Yurchak and others) and turning to various historical cases. The collection includes more than twenty studies that allow you to reconstruct a rich history of transformation of publicity regimes in pre -revolutionary, Soviet and post -Soviet Russia. Analyzing different forms of publicity - from the imperial court to art exhibitions and debates on social networks - the authors seek to explain why in some historical periods the statements addressed to society have a significant resonance and are able to determine the course of events, and in others they leave the audience indifferent and harshly suppressed by the authorities .
