The book of the political philosopher Leo Strauss, published in 1964 and immediately earned a reputation as “provocative” due to the demonstrative reluctance of the author to reckon with the dogmas and prejudices of modern political and historical science, is an important part of the Strausovsky restoration of classical political philosophy. The author’s focus is three figures that are important for understanding the essence of classical political thinking: Aristotle, Plato and Fukidid. Strauss offers a deep and extremely peculiar interpretation of the Aristotelian “politics”, the Platonic “state” and the “history of the Peloponnesian war” of Fukidid. Finding the roots of the Aristotelian concept of politics in the early philosophical and even prefilosophical views and deeply analyzing Plato"s dialogue, Strauss collects all three parts of the book in the picture impressive with its integrity, not only reading the “history” of Fukidide as a historical and moral composition, but embedding his thought into the space of philosophy
