In the book, the economic works of Sergei Fedorovich Sharapova (1855-1911) are investigated (1855-1911), which made up many major ideas of Slavophiles. Sharapov disruptedly foresaw the catastrophic consequences of the country"s capitalist development at the end of the XIX - early XX century, offered alternative economic development models, making special emphasis on the need to restructure the monetary system of Russia. He constantly emphasized that the economic revival of Russia is possible only on the foundation of Orthodoxy, a strong church life, with a support for the parish as a primary cell of society, having among the entire economic functions. In an alternative model of the economy and the monetary system, proposed by Sharapov, the key elements were absolute (paper) money, imaginary capital, reserve capital, government banks, state-owned monopolies in a number of sectors of the economy, regulated by the state exchange rate of the ruble and others.
The author notes that the monetary system formed into the Soviet period has had a number of elements that were kept in the Sharapov model.
The current state of the Russian economy is very similar to the situation that was century ago, so many thoughts of Russian economists remain relevant to this day
