We present to the pious reader a new book from the Optina Desert publishing house 'Earthly and Heavenly Paths. Inhabitants of the Optina Desert of the 19th - 20th centuries: unknown about the famous', which includes twenty articles by the well-known journalist Zoe Mikhaylovna Afanasyeva. Each of them represents an author's research, presented in an engaging manner, telling about little-known and newly discovered facts from the history of the famous monastery.
In the article 'Homeland of my Ancestors', the history of the Kavelin's Kozelsk estate is presented before us - a family closely connected with Optina. 'Blessed Holmishchi' will introduce the reader to the last earthly abode of the elder Nectarius. The study 'Consular House in the Optina Desert' will tell about the stay near the monastery of K.N. Leontiev, about how Elder Ambrose communicated with Leo Tolstoy, we will learn how the well-known to every admirer of the Optina Desert 'Juvenal Estate' and 'Consular House' differ.
The author uses a wide range of sources: published materials, archival documents, and unknown to the general reader research by local historians of Kozelsk. The book is generously supplied with illustrative material, including rare archival photographs.
