The fifth volume of the collected works includes articles written by E.T. Gaidar individually or in collaboration from the late 1970s to 1991 - the beginning of radical reforms that facilitated Russia's transition to a market economy. Their content provides a vivid representation of the economy during this period, its most acute problems, and attempts to propose mechanisms to address them.
The evolution of the author's views can be traced. Early works are written in a fairly traditional style of economic management analysis accepted during the Soviet era.
