James Joyce - the classic of the Anglo-Irish literature, which had a tremendous effect on the prose of the XX century. In the history of world literature, he entered as the author of the novel "Ulysses", who became the Gospel of Modernism and putting the beginning of the literature "stream of consciousness".
Collection of psychologically thin novel "Dublins" is the first mature product of Joyce. My intention, Joyce wrote, to write the chapter from the spiritual history of my country, and I chose Dublin"s place, because, from my point of view, this city is the center of paralysis. Palsy for Joyce is a symbol of the vices of modern Irish life hated by him: cosiness, low-stones, corruption, cultural retardation and confusion. The meaning of the "Dublinians" is beyond the scope of Joyce"s creativity. This is the first realistic work of the Irish literature of the 20th century and the new stage in the development of European novels, no less important than Chekhov prose.
In this edition, the collection of stories is published at the best today"s translation of S. Khoruzhya with detailed comments
