Working with cover varnishes of easel oil painting

The methodological manual is devoted to topical issues of the technology of using cover varnishes of easel painting - the least studied from a theoretical point of view and extremely important in practical terms. It contains a brief historical certificate for the use of cover varnishes in Russian painting of the XVIII-XIX centuries. And the recipe for their manufacture, information about the technology of covering paintings with varnish is given, the regeneration of the cover varnishes and the Petencofer method, little -known and forgotten facts about protein and so -called "temporal" varnishes are mentioned. In addition to theoretical information, the manual contains recommendations based on many years of practical experience on refinement, alignment and removal of the author’s coating. The properties of modern varnishes intended for the finish coating are also considered.
