Leonid Rabichev is a famous artist, prose writer, poet who went through the Great Patriotic War as a representative of the 31st Army, operating on the Central, 3rd Belorussian and 1st Ukrainian Fronts. He would write off everything ”he said this:“ After sixty years, I write what comes out of my memory, not always and not necessarily sequentially, I can’t understand everything, I can’t justify anything, sometimes hunch, sometimes insight ... This is only what fell into the field my vision. The author recreated episodes from life at the front and in the rear, honestly and harshly spoke about the dark and shocking moments of historical events, each of which he missed through his heart. Sometimes his memories are similar to confession, sometimes a chronicle, and sometimes a work of art. This basis of the narrative made his text piercing and truthful, allowed the reader to feel like an eyewitness to those distant war years
