The monograph sequentially considers the works of the easel painting of the era of the First Russian Revolution, the October Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War, analyzing the plastic sources and components of the new “proletarian art”. In the focus of research attention, the problem of artistic recreation and visualization of the main historical stages of the revolutionary struggle and attempts to build a socialist society, as well as a cultural and historical explanation of the development of Russian art of realistic orientation, from radical late movement to early Soviet painting. The author recreates the panorama of the culture and life of Russia in 1905-1924, intersections, parallels and discrepancies of ways of developing art, explores their obvious and hidden connections against the background of political events and processes in order to see revolutionary utopia from the inside, through the eyes of its creators, at the same time without distorting objective historical circumstances. The publication is addressed to art critics, historians, museum employees, as well as a wide circle of readers interested in the domestic art of the first half of the 20th century
