This publication continues the publication of materials from the RGAVMF funds dedicated to the figures of the Russian Navy. The diary of Ivan Fedorovich Likhachev (1826–1907), which he led during the command of the squadron in the Far East in 1860–1861. It contains meteorological and astronomical observations during the swimming of the squadron ships, information about the history and culture of China, Japan, Amur and Sakhalin, the plant and animal world, the traditions and life of the inhabitants of these territories. It is important as a historical source for the study of international relations in this region, primarily the contacts of Russia and Japan after the conclusion of the Simodsky Treaty (1855) and the territorial distinction between the Amur Territory between Russia and China according to Aigunsky (1858) and the Beijing (1860) agreements. The publication is equipped with the necessary scientific and reference apparatus and contains a rich illustrative series. It is designed for a wide range of researchers involved in the history of the Russian Navy, issues of foreign policy of Russia, its diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with other states in the middle of the 19th century.
