Today, the pre-Raphaelites, the artistic direction arising in the UK in the middle of the 19th century, is one of the most popular, recognized and beloved masters of painting and design. Refined aristocracy, sophistication of plots, fantastic beauty of models, filigree skill of details attract connoisseurs of painting around the world to this art. It strengthens the interest and knowledge that the Prefaelites had a huge impact on the entire artistic culture of the 20th century: from the art of Art Nouveau, whose creators they are recognized, to John Tolkien and the hippie movement.
We must pay tribute to the best British art critics: among them there were perspicacious minds that appreciated the new art. The first of them was John Raskin, after the passionate publications of which the Pre -Raphaelites received a “residence permit” in art. No less significant was the contribution of Percy Beit, an outstanding British art critic, the keeper of the collection of the Royal Institute of Extraordinary Arts in Glasgow
