The famous monograph by Carlo Ginzburg "Riddle Pierrot" (1981) is an intellectual bestseller and an art history detective, built around the historical interpretation of the frescoes of the 15th century, Pierro Della Francesca. The author resolutely departs from the stylistic interpretation of painting and prefers her an analysis of socio-historical, political, everyday and other circumstances that accompanied the creation of fresco images. The meaning of Pierrot’s paintings is connected with the daily life of the painter himself, his customers and their patrons.
