The personality of the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire Abdul-Hamid II causes the most acute interest not only of historians, but also to the general public. In his memoirs, one of the daughters of the Sultan, Shadiya, talks about life in the palace and about the father - the great Sultan, politics, the ruler and just a beloved and dear person. For the first time, the princess’s memoirs were published in 1963 in the form of an interview in a popular Turkish magazine. A little later they turned into a book called The sad and happy days of my life. Since then, these memories have been published and reprinted both in Turkey and in other countries for more than half a century.
